Toyota Fortuner is one of the most popular SUV in its segment. Earlier this year, Toyota launched the 2021 version of the SUV with cosmetic and feature updates. Toyota Fortuner competes with SUVs like Ford Endeavour and MG Gloster in the segment. It is a proper SUV and can handle off-road duties pretty well. We have seen several conversion and modification videos of Toyota Fortuner in the past. Here we have a video that shows how a type 1 Fortuner has been neatly modified into a Type 3 Fortuner. This is probably the first time that a Type 1 Fortuner is converted into a Type 3 Fortuner in India.

The video has been uploaded by Autorounders on their YouTube channel. The video starts with the vlogger showing how the car looked like when it had arrived at the workshop. It is a first generation Toyota Fortuner. Several parts have to be replaced in order to achieve the Type 3 of second generation Fotuner look. The vlogger admits that, they had faced certain problems in this project they were doing it for the first time.

The Fortuner is then taken to the workshop and the front panels like the bonnet, front grille, headlamps, bumper, fog lamps, side fenders are all removed. After removing, the workshop installs Type 3 Fortuner kit on to it. The front gets Lexus like grille with chrome inserts on both ends. The headlights are the same as seen in the Type 3 Fortuner. The bonnet gets a scoop on it and the blacked out grille gives it an aggressive look. Coming down, the new bumper and the fog lamps with chrome garnish looks extremely good on the SUV.

Moving to the side profile, you realise the limitation of this project that the vlogger was talking about. From the front, the Fortuner looks like a Type 3 but, when we move to the side profile, the design is of teh Type 1 or Type 2 Fortuner. The current generation Fortuner has a different design and it is quite impossible for any workshop to bring that look without making major changes to the body. The wheels are the same as before but, it now gets body coloured cladding around it.

Moving to the rear, the Type 1 tail lamps have been replaced with Type 2 aftermarket LED units. The chrome applique on the boot has been replaced with a gloss black aftermarket unit. It comes with Illuminated Fortuner badging that is synchronised with turn indicators. On the inside, there are illuminated scuff plates and starlight roof liner. The work on this Fortuner does look very neat but, due to the limitation of the shape, the SUV could not be converted into a Type 3 model completely. The approximate cost of this modification with paint job was Rs 2 lakh.

Fortuner is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The 2.8 litre diesel engine on Fortuner was updated recently and it now generates 204 Ps and 500 Nm of peak torque. It is available with both 4×4 and 2WD option. The 2.7 litre petrol engine is available with 2WD option only. Both petrol and diesel are available with manual and automatic gearbox options.
