'America Last' Becomes New Attack Sound Bite for Joe Biden's Critics
Joe Biden's adversaries have landed on a common attack line for targeting the president—branding his and Democrats' policy positions as "America last."
Just over a month into his presidency, the commander-in-chief's critics have begun to round on his stances and several have used this two-word phrase.
Speaking at CPAC on Sunday, former President Donald Trump said: "In one month we have gone from America first to America last."
Throughout his presidency, Trump had touted his stance as being "America first."
Former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows had also previously used this phrase when criticizing Biden's early executive actions.
Speaking to Fox News he said: "I can tell you it is not about America first, it's about America last."
It has also been used by current Republican lawmakers.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) criticized Democrats in a Fox News interview on Monday.
During this, he said: "You look at the left, and far too many of the Republican Party also, and for a long time they have essentially been on board with essentially what I'd call America last."
Fellow Texas lawmaker Rep. Roger Williams (R-TX) also aimed at Biden's early action as president and in doing so criticized what he branded: "An America Last Agenda."
In a statement under that title released on January 25, Williams said: "President Biden wasted no time fulfilling his campaign promises to enact the radical Left's agenda."
Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) also used this line of criticism, focusing on Biden's climate plans. Crenshaw, speaking on Fox News in February, said "Biden's America last plan" ceded "energy dominance" to other nations.
Fox News host Sean Hannity, a frequent critic of Biden, used the phrase "America last" when taking issue with Biden administration decisions in February. His fellow Fox News host Jeanine Pirro has also used this line of criticism.
"It has been one month since Joe Biden has assumed the role as commander-in-chief," Pirro said on Fox News on February 20. "In that one month, we've gone from President Trump's policy of America first to Biden's new policy America last."
Fox News host Laura Ingraham also used this line when taking aim at the president in November of last year.
Biden has come under frequent criticism by Republicans since assuming office, with his positions on energy, foreign policy and immigration all under scrutiny.
The number of executive orders signed by Biden at the start of his tenure was also questioned by GOP lawmakers.
However, despite such criticism his approval rating has remained buoyant throughout his first month—steadily holding majority approval.
Newsweek has contacted the lawmakers mentioned and the White House for comment.
