Number of electric buses would be increased for protecting environment

Patna, Mar 02 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the number of electric buses would be increased once its services launched today were found satisfactory.
Mr Kumar, after launching the services of electric buses here, said that 25 electric buses were scheduled to be operated for public transport and 12 of them had already arrived while the rest would arrive in this month itself. He and other ministers besides some senior officials had been using electric cars since 2019, he stated.
Chief Minister said that care had been taken to provide all required facilities in electric buses. The number of electric buses would be increased once its services were found satisfactory, he added.
Mr Kumar said that the state government had launched the 'Jal Jeevan Hariyali mission' to protect the environment and minimise the ill effects of climate changes. The use of electric buses would help in protecting the environment, he stressed.
Chief Minister said that number of accidents would also decrease with the launching of electric bus services. A national-level committee had been constituted to suggest measures required to be taken to check several accidents, he added.
Mr Kumar said that under the new scenario, after a decision taken by the Centre, his government had decided to encourage the production of ethanol and make the state as its hub. As per the opinion of the experts, 20 per cent ethanol could be mixed with petrol, he noted.
