CHENNAI: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Chennai city police on Tuesday arrested Anna University MIT campus deputy registrar E Parthasarathy for issuing fake job appointment orders to candidates after collecting a sum of Rs 3.28 crore from them.
Parthasarathy was arrested based on a complaint filed by one Vigneshwaran.
Police said Parthasarathy had collected money from aspirants by promising professor and assistant professor jobs. He met the candidates in person and promised them jobs. He issued job orders after collecting money from them.
The fraud came to light when the aspirants went to the campus with job orders. They were turned away by officials stating that the orders were fake.
The CCB booked Parthasarathy on the charge of cheating. He was remanded in judicial custody.
