1,127 in Punjab receive jab on first day of third phase

Chandigarh: As many as 1,127 beneficiaries received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine on the first day of the third phase of the ongoing vaccination drive on Monday. Of these, 970 recipients were in the category of 60 years and above while 157 were in the age group of 45-plus with comorbidities.
Ludhiana district had the maximum of 479 recipients -- 126 (45-plus) and 353 (60-plus) -- who received their first dose, followed by Hoshiarpur, where 100 senior citizens and six persons in the age group of above 45 years got themselves immunised. Amritsar Lok Sabha MP Gurjit Singh Aujla and his wife were among 86 recipient to get the first dose. In Mohali, 83 persons were jabbed while in Jalandhar, only 16 were immunised in both the categories. As there was trouble in the portal, those who had come to the Civil Hospital Jalandhar after registering themselves, had to wait. For some, the wait even went up to over an hour.
In Ropar, among the 46 who were administered the vaccine were former MLA Bhag Singh and senior advocate Harmohan Dhawan. Former SDO irrigation Narinder Singh was the first person to get vaccinated. In Fatehgarh Sahib, 23 elderly, three comorbid patients, 84 frontline workers and seven health care workers got the first dose of vaccine while seven healthcare workers got the second dose.
In Patiala, 537 people were vaccinated. These included the PPSC chairman, member National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions, retired deputy chief engineer PSEB P K Jain and his wife and retired gynaecologist Dr Harmanpreet Kaur.
A total of 5,038 frontline workers received the first dose of the vaccine while 877 health workers were vaccinated. The second dose was given to 2,380 health workers. So far, the first dose has been given to 1,59,981 beneficiaries.

18 DEATHS, 635 CASES
As many as 635 fresh cases of Covid-19 were reported in Punjab, while 18 patients succumbed to the virus on Monday. Six deaths were reported in Nawanshahr, two each in Amritsar and Patiala and one each in Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Mohali, Pathankot and Sangrur.
Kapurthala contributed 133 cases to the overall tally, while 93 persons were tested positive in Hoshiarpur, 64 in Ludhiana, 60 in Mohali, 45 in Amritsar, 42 in Jalandhar, 34 in Bathinda, 20 in Gurdaspur, 10 in Ferozepur, 14 in Sangrur, nine in Fatehgarh Sahib, eight in Mansa, six each in Fazilka and Ropar, five in Muktsar, three in Tarn Taran, two in Pathankot and one in Faridkot.
