LIVE market updates: The Indian markets climbed off the day's top but were still trading in the green in the noon deals of Tuesday's volatile session.
The S&P BSE Sensex traded near 49,950 levels, up 100 points, having earlier risen to as high as 50,425. The broader Nifty50 index was holding above the 14,800-mark. Mahindra & Mahindra rose 3 per cent and was the top Sensex gainer, followed by Tech Mahindra and NTPC (both up 2%).
Among other individual stocks, BPCL rose 4 per cent in early deals after the company said it will exit Numaligarh refinery in Assam by selling its entire stake to a consortium of Oil India Ltd and Engineers India Ltd for Rs 9,876 crore.
The Nifty sectoral indices were trading mixed, with Nifty IT index, up 1.6 per cent, leading the gainers.
Meanwhile, the broader markets outran their benchmark peers, with the S&P BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices trading 0.9 per cent up, each.
