IPL 2021: Punjab Kings ‘still hopeful to convince BCCI for Mohali as an IPL Venue’

IPL 2021 – Punjab Kings: It’s not all over yet for Punjab Kings as they are still hopeful for a ‘last-minute turnaround’ with a belief in a ‘change of heart’ within the corridors of power in BCCI and IPL governing council as hectic parleys are on to convince them for including Mohali as one of the venues for the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021).

“There has not been any official communication yet regarding the finalisation of venues. As far as media reports and speculations are concerned, it’s quite a concern for Punjab Kings as we are very keen to host matches at our home ground in Mohali. It’s not really a question of losing revenues as spectators may or may not be allowed in person at any stadium,” a top Punjab Kings official told Inside News on Tuesday.

As per BCCI sources, IPL 2021 will only be held in 6 cities — Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Ahmedabad. Teams like Kings Punjab, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad are the biggest losers and are reportedly very unhappy and concerned about the issue.

Punjab King’s official explained further: “Its a question of losing home advantage. So we are very keen to have Mohali as one of the venues and talking to BCCI on a day to day basis on the possible inclusion of Mohali. We are sure IPL governing council will talk to us before arriving at a final decision.”

When asked whether Kings Punjab will still choose to hold camp in Mohali even if they did not get Mohali as a venue, the top official said Kings Punjab would not like to comment on a hypothetical question at this stage. “Let’s not jump the guns and we will talk about the bridge when we cross it.”
