Gujarat Local Body Election Results 2021: State Election Commission officials informed that the BJP fielded 8,161 candidates, Congress 7,778, Aam Aadmi Party 2,090, among others for 8,235 seats. (PTI)Gujarat Panchayat Election Results 2021 Live Update: Gujarat looks set to witness another saffron sweep in the local body polls with the Bharatiya Janata Party leading on 31 out of 31 district panchayats, and 185 seats in Taluka Panchayats. The Congress, on the other hand, trails behind with leads in 34 seats. In the Municipalities, the BJP is ahead on 67 out of 81 seats while the Congress is leading on just seven seats. In Rajkot district panchayat, the Congress has conceded power to the BJP. The BJP has won 25 out of 36 seats while the Congress managed to save just 11 seats. However, the BJP has faced a big setback in Ahmedabad district panchayat despite securing majority. The president of the district panchayat will be from Congress. Congress candidate Paruben Padhar has won the Shahpur seat of the district panchayat. The Shahpur seat is ST reserved and the post of Ahmedabad District Panchayat President is also ST reserved. The BJP has also secured a majority in Mandvi municipality where it won 14 seats out of 24. The Congress has won 3 seats while counting for seven seats is still in progress. In Porbandar, the BJP has swept the polls by winning 12 seats.
The Congress was expecting to improve its performance in the local bodies polls after facing a debacle in municipal corporation polls. However, the results did not favour the Congress and it has lost even in the panchayats where it was in the power. A total of 58.82 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the municipalities, 65.80 per cent in the district panchayats and 66.60 per cent polling was in the taluka panchayats. According to the state election commission, polling was conducted for 8,235 out of 8,474 seats while 237 candidates were elected unopposed. No candidates filed nominations for two seats. The ruling BJP had given tickets to 8,161 candidates while Congress fielded 7,778 candidates. Debutant Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had given tickets to 2,090 candidates..

In Kalawad District Panchayat of Jamnagar, BJP and Congress won 2 seats each. On the other hand, BJP won 8 out of 18 taluka panchayats while 7 went to Congress and 2 to AAP.
