The Eastern Province Elephants have a headache or two after flyhalf and captain Inny Radebe broke his hand during their 87-10 loss to the Bulls in Pretoria on Sunday.

Radebe will be sidelined for an extended period and this means coach Peter de Villiers needs to look for a new captain.

Tighthead prop Lupumlo Mguca was the vice-captain at Loftus Versfeld but Netwerk24 is reporting that flank CJ Velleman is likely to take the captain's armband for the remainder of the preparation series.

Velleman, 26, captained the Southern Kings before when they participated in the PRO14.

A tougher decision for De Villiers, though, is deciding who will take over at flyhalf.

Josh Allderman is the back-up flyhalf, while fullback Courtney Winnaar could also be utilised at No 10.

There's also the option of playing scrumhalf Luvo Claassen at pivot, with Allderman tried in the No 9 jersey where he has played before in the PRO14.

EP's next match in the preparation series is against the Lions in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) on Wednesday, 10 March.
