India vs England: R Ashwin, Joe Root lead race for ICC Men’s Player of the Month for February- India ace spinner R Ashwin and England captain Joe Root are leading the race for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for February. While Ashwin has 24 wickets and a century under his belt, Joe Root has a double hundred that he scored in the opening Test in Chennai. He has six wickets including a fifer in the last Test at Ahmedabad.
R Ashwin – The India allrounder has done extremely well for India in the ongoing Test series against England. He picked 8 wickets in the last Test and went on to achieve his 400th wicket in Test cricket – only third Indian player in the elite list. In Chennai, he had not only picked wickets but scored a crucial ton in the second Test to set up the game in favour of India. Ashwin had taken eight wickets including fifers in the first Tests while playing at his home ground in Chepauk Stadium, Chennai.
Joe Root – The England captain slammed his fifth double century, giving a perfect start to England in the Test series. Root scored 218 runs and helped England win the Test by 277 runs. He also took a five-wicket haul at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
But, Root has failed to do well in rest of his last five innings. His scores read 40, 33, 6, 17 and 19.

Other players in the list includes Kyle Mayers of West Indies. The West Indies player made a double century on debut and pulled off an incredible victory against Bangladesh. He has scored 261 runs at an average of 87.
Rishabh Pant had won the inaugural edition of ICC Men’s Player of the Month for January after his match-winning knocks for India against Australia in Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
In women’s cricket, Tammy Beaumont is leading the race with 231 runs in ODIs against New Zealand. Others in the race include Brooke Halliday (110 runs and 2 wickets) and Natalie Sciver (63 runs and five wickets).
