CHANDIGARH: Ahead of the 2022 assembly elections, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday appointed strategist Prashant Kishor as his principal adviser. Kishor was instrumental in stitching together Amarinder’s campaign during the last elections.
Making the announcement on Twitter, Amarinder said: “Happy to share that Prashant Kishor has joined me as my Principal Advisor. Look forward to working together for the betterment of the people of Punjab!” Kishor will get the rank and status of a cabinet minister and will take a token honorarium of Re1 as pay, said a notification by the department of general administration.
The development comes close on the heels of Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar announcing the ‘Captain2022’ campaign. It also comes at a time when speculations have been rife about former cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu being given a role in the state government or the party’s organisational structure.
Sources said Kishor is expected to focus on Punjab after the polls in Bengal, where he has been engaged by Mamata Banerjee. “Since Kishor was the one who designed the Congress campaign, he has been brought in early to project fulfilment of most polls promises. He could also have a role in certain realignments in the party affairs that have been hanging fire,” said a party member.
