NEW DELHI: The farmer leaders on Tuesday decided to take their fight with the Centre over the three new farm laws to the poll-bound states.
Assembly elections will be held in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and the Union territory of Puducherry from March 27 to April 29.
The farmer leaders have decided to send teams to these states to campaign against the BJP and its allies.
"We will not support any party but will appeal people to vote for the candidates who can defeat BJP. We will tell the people about Modi govt's attitude towards farmers," said Balbir S Rajewal of the Bhartiya Kisan Union.
Yogendra Yadav of Swaraj India said: "In the Assembly elections, we will appeal to people to punish this party (BJP) and its allies who brought anti-farmer laws. We will go to the boll-bound states. This programme will begin in Kolkata on March 12 with a public meeting."
Farmers join hands with trade unions
Meanwhile, farmers and labourers have decided in principle to fight the battle against farm laws and privatisation together. This was decided after a meeting between the farmers and 10 trade unions.
"On March 15, labourers and employees will take to streets across the country against privatisation and corporatization. Farmers will join them," said Yogendra Yadav.
On Day 100, farmers will block expressway
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha in a meeting on Tuesday finalised the protest programmes till March 15. On March 6, when the protest enters Day 100, farmers will block Kundli–Manesar–Palwal Expressway at different points between 11am and 4pm, said Yogendra Yadav.
