Tata Motors launched the 2021 Safari last month and it has received a good response from the Indian market. The homegrown manufacturer reported that they have delivered 100 units of their new flagship SUV in just one day in Delhi-NCR. Most of the customers have opted for the XZA+ variant which sits on the top of the line-up. It means most of the customers are preferring the automatic transmission over the manual gearbox. The most preferred colour option chosen by the customers were Royal Blue and Orcus White. The Safari is offered in 4 colours. There is the  Tropical Mist, Royal Blue, Orcus White and Daytona Grey.

It comes in six variants, namely XE, XM, XT, XT+, XZ, and XZ+. There is also an Adventure Persona Edition offered by Tata Motors that is offered only with the Tropical Mist colour. The Adventure Persona Edition comes with blacked-out trim for the exterior.

So, the front tri-arrow grille surrounds for headlamps, “Safari” badging and the front skid plates are finished in black instead of chrome or silver. The door handles and the roof rails are also finished in black instead of chrome. The alloy wheels also get a different Charcoal Grey colour finish. Also, the rear “Safari” badging is blacked-out instead of chrome. The cabin also gets an Earthy Brown colour instead of Ivory White. Piano Black is used for trim on AC vents, steering wheel, centre console, grabs handle surrounds, switches and knobs. Due to all these cosmetic changes, the Adventure Persona Edition costs Rs. 20,000 more than the XZ+ and the XZA+ variant on which the special edition is based on.

Tata Safari is based on the OMEGARC platform that is derived from Land Rover’s D8 platform. It is the same platform that underpins the Harrier. As of now, the Safari is not offered with an all-wheel-drive powertrain but Tata says that the platform is capable of supporting all-wheel-drive and electrification for future prospects. Tata Safari comes with the same 2.0-litre Kyrotec diesel engine that is doing duty on the Harrier. The engine produces 170 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 350 Nm. It is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

There is loads of equipment on offer. The Safari comes with ESP, rollover mitigation, traction control, rear parking sensors, dual front airbags, rear disc brakes, hill hold assist central locking, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, projector headlights with Daytime Running Lamps and roof rails as standard. Tata also offers the top-end variant as a 6 or a 7-seater. So, you can opt for captain seats for the second row, which provides a sense of premiumness.
