Tirupati, Mar 1 (UNI) Telugu Desam Party National President and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday squatted on the floor at Renigunta airport lounge after the Chittoor district police stopped him from going ahead with his tour in Tirupati temple town.
Mr. Naidu slammed the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy headed YSRCP Government and asserted that 'your fear-driven, state-sponsored vendetta' would not stop the TDP from reaching out to the people.
The TDP Chief objected to the manner in which he was detained by the police.
The phones of Mr Naidu, his PA and medical officers were snatched away.
The police officials did not respond immediately to Mr. Naidu's demand to allow him to meet the Chittoor District Collector and the Superintendents of Police of Chittoor and Tirupati to make his representation on how his visit was foiled.
He asserted that he would not relent till permission was given to him.
Mr. Naidu refused to take the mid-day meal and did not accept drinking water.
He asked the police whether he (Naidu) had no right to meet with the District Collector and the SPs in his capacity as the Opposition Leader of Andhra Pradesh..
The TDP leaders across the State launched demonstrations in protest against the 'arbitrary action' taken by the police.
Expressing anquish, Mr. Naidu demanded the police to explain why he was unreasonably detained at the airport.
He asked whether he had committed any murder.
The former Chief Minister told the police that he had not come to Chittoor district to hold any protest or dharna anywhere in the district.
For over 14 years, he had served as the Chief Minister but the police were creating obstacles for not utilising his fundamental right to go forward with his tour, he added.
