KU faculty of science celebrate National Science Day

KURUKSHETRA: On the occasion of National Science Day 2021 which was on February 28, the faculty of science of Kurukshetra University (KU) organized a celebration of the occasion through a special address.
The theme was Future of STI in: Education,Skills and work.

The occasion was attended by KU vice-chancellor Prof Som Nath Sachdeva, who delivered the presidential remarks and spoke about contributions of late Sir CV Raman and its relevance in material characterization.

Professor SS Teotia, dean sciences, spoke about how universities and departments should transform to meet the challenges and opportunities in education through virtual mode in lab practical.

The special keynote speaker was Vishnu Chandra, deputy director general and head of group, National Informatic Centre (NIC), Divisions, Government of India, who addressed the assembly on the importance of geospatial technology and services. He elaborated on the appreciable work being done by the NIC and explained how the innovative technologies and changes have made constant and significant growth in the last 40 years. Vishnu Chandra said “Nowadays various survey systems are available, like GPS and GPRS systems. These help in updating the various connectivity platforms. Now we have virtual platforms, on which classrooms, assignments, and other general connectivity between different institutes can take place. These are completely different from those of past years.”

Chandra spoke about how NIC is able to gain information on large scale population as well as geological sites on earth. Further, he spoke about data driven models in urban resilience that are artificial intelligence, real time communication, sensors, basic mobility and so on, for the heterogeneous systems to work together to achieve common goals.


Chandra spoke about how in the present pandemic situation, mobility, e-pass system Covid-19 based mapping is provided by NIC.


At last, Chandra said that to reach the top, “We need not be copycats, but instead we need to have an innovative mind.”


The event was attended by deans, directors, chairpersons and students of various departments of science faculty.
