Animals can be communicative if they want to be! We often associate certain sounds to particular animals and expect them to react in the traditional way. A cat meows, a dog barks and a tiger roars, right? However, the recent viral video shows the tiger not roaring but instead making some soft noise like howling! Naturally, the video of the eight-months-old cub from a Siberian zoo is the latest social media sensation, leaving Twitterati in a state of worry.
In the video, we can see the male cub in a cage with another tiger. However, he is seen howling or making ‘melodious soft cries’ instead of growling or roaring. This is considered to be a rare thing as it is unusual for this mighty creature to not make a roaring sound. This ‘musical’ cry, however, has not much impressed some of the netizens.

The video has caused many reactions on the microblogging site. While some found the video adorable, others were left wondering if the tiger was indeed “singing” and wasn’t in pain instead. A Twitter user said, “You posted this twice… maybe he’s doing these sounds because he’s not treated well?” Another tweet said, “Tiger in captivity makes sounds like a cat. Did we manage to domesticate the great predator.” One more animal-lover said, “This is not cute, this is sad. Obviously I’m going to give out loud and loud roars like a storm, because I’m a very happy tiger trapped in a cage since I was born.”

Those are not happy sounds. I believe they make the same sound when they're grieving— Lady Killigrew (@KilligrewLady) February 27, 2021
According to 6abc.com, the zoo officials have stated that the tiger is not in pain but it makes high pitched sounds when it wants attention. Well, now the big cat definitely has gotten what he desired but what does he want to say? He now has Twitterati’s ‘attention’ because of this unique behaviour, which they think is disturbing.
Even though the officials have stated that there is no reason to worry regarding the cub, many on Twitter have asked the zoo officials to free the tiger from the cage.
