Nagpur: Two leaders from different parties were allowed to go scot-free from the police station despite cases of assault.
After instructions from CP Amitesh Kumar, the city police had initiated preventive action against offenders.
A politician with seven offences along with his younger brother, who also has six cases, were summoned to the Sonegaon police station.
At the police station, the brothers started bragging about their political positions as well as connections with the powers that be, said sources.
They were also reportedly annoyed with the repeated visits of cops to their residence.
Last week, top cop Kumar had made his displeasure known to officers who were found wanting for lack of effort in curbing body crime, the case in point being the murder of goon Nilesh Naidu.
After the politician and his brother were let off from the police station, they drove off in a car with a sticker of a senior political figure.
Sources stated that the politician and his brother had offences of attempt to murder against them in the past.
According to senior inspector Dilip Sagar of Sonegaon police station, the politician and his brother had an offence registered them in 2012 and since then there have been none. “We allowed them to go home because we are verifying their activities. We can always take action against them anytime,” he said.
It’s learnt that another politician too was allowed to go home from the Sonegaon police station after he claimed that he was leading a peaceful life.
