Queen Elizabeth's former press secretary says Prince Philip requested Prince Charles' hospital visit in February.

The Prince of Wales went to see his father after he was hospitalised. He remains in hospital care and it has since been revealed he'd been receiving treatment for an infection.

Now, Dickie Arbiter says he believes it was to discuss the future of the firm – "to lay the ground."

"Look, the man is 99, he is in with an infection," he said. "My guess is that he will come out, he will walk out and he will go back to Windsor. But eventually, he is going to die, and he was just saying to Charles, 'One day you are going to be the leading man of the family.'"

With regards to his condition, Prince William has since updated that his grandfather is "okay".

"He is comfortable and responding to treatment but is not expected to leave hospital for several days," Buckingham Palace also updated the press last week.
