BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa high court is scheduled to hear on Monday a petition that was filed by a lawyer in 2002 regarding the CBI’s alleged failure to arrest the main accused in the 1999 Baranga gang rape case and the agency’s reluctance to probe the political conspiracy angle. The case has been listed for hearing in the court of Chief Justice S Muralidhar.
“I am surprised that the case has been listed for hearing on Monday after so many years. I had filed the petition in August 2002. Subsequently, the high court had issued notice to the CBI. Though it was listed a few years ago, the case was not heard,” said senior lawyer Bibhu Prasad Tripathy.
