Every now and then there are goals that leave you wonderstruck and you just have to watch and admire them on loop. And Notts County’s Elisha Sam recently scored a goal that falls under this category. The striker playing for the National League side in the FA Trophy game on Saturday against Oxford City scored an incredible backheel volley which looks set to be nominated for the Puskas Awards this year.
The 23-year-old scored twice in the game to give his side a 3-1 win over Oxford City on Saturday at Meadow Lane Stadium. But, it was his second goal of the match that has become the talk of the town.
It began when teammate Adam Chicksen delivered an inviting cross into the box. Sam latched on to it with an improvised backheel volley to flick it past Oxford City’s goalkeeper. Despite the fact his foot was behind him, the centre-forward’s acrobatic flick was an important goal for his team and in the match too. It gave them a lead before the win was wrapped up by Jimmy Knowles in added time.
Sam’s amazing brace in the 73rd minute was certainly special and maybe worthy of a Puskas nomination at the end of the season. A video of his goal was posted on Notts County’s Twitter page and the clip has been viewed nearly 2.9 million times and over 45,000 ‘likes’ since shared online.

The win on Saturday has given Notts County a place in the semi-finals of the FA Trophy and they are just one game away from an appearance at Wembley.
Notts County is touted as the world’s oldest professional football club. Founded in 1862, the professional association football club based in Nottingham, England They had dropped out of the Football League in May 2019.
