MUMBAI: The BMC's M west ward on Sunday registered an FIR at the Govandi police station against a Chembur resident who flouted the mandatory 14-day quarantine rule despite having tested positive for Covid-19.
Civic authorities said that initially his daughter had tested positive after which her parents had got themselves tested for the virus considering they were high risk contacts and both were found to be positive.
The ward authorities said that they also received complaints from the positive patient's housing society after the 52 year was found moving around in the area despite testing positive for covid-19.
The society members initially called up the civic staff to find out if the concerned person had tested positive considering the test undertaken by the family after his daughter tested positive.
"There is a mandatory 14-day quarantine however they informed us that he was spotted at the Chembur Gymkhana," said Dr Bhupendra Patil, medical health officer, M-West Ward, adding that when civic staff reached his flat his wife initially informed them that her husband was in the toilet however when the staff insisted on waiting for him they got to know that he was not in his home.
"The family members did not cooperate with our staff and we had to go ahead and file an FIR. The police have warned the patient that they need to be following the protocol. The positive patient however said that the managing committee was purposefully complaining against him," said Patil.
Officials from the M west ward said that this was the first case in which an FIR was lodged against a person flouting the quarantine rules in their ward after the directions issued by the BMC commissioner recently to act sternly against those not following Covid appropriate behavior. Last week the M west ward registered an FIR against the parents of a bride and a groom as well as the organizers of a wedding in Chembur for violating the state’s standard operating procedure for celebrations with not more than 50 persons.
