JIND: In Haryana, it is quite the trend to perform songs extolling the hard work of farmers in wedding events. Printing slogans like ‘no farmer, no food’, peasant leader Chhotu Ram’s picture and ploughs on wedding invitations are also common these days. Younger generation opting for turban, dhoti and kurta is another trend that is being associated with the ongoing farmers’ movement.
For instance, Partik, 26, a native of Pichopa village in Dadri district of Haryana, took his ‘baraat’ (groom procession) in Nerul area of Navi Mumbai on February 25 dressed as a farmer, wearing turban. Right after the wedding, Partik and his wife came to Tikri border to sit in solidarity with farmers.
Talking to TOI, Partik said, “We both completed our post graduation due to the hard work of our farmer parents. My father is involved in farming in Haryana’s dadri district and wife’s parents are from Mumbai.”
