Mumbai, Feb 28 (UNI) Maharashtra Congress legislators will bicycle to Vidhan Sabha on Monday, the first day of Budget session, to protest against rising prices of petroleum products, as per an official release.
Congress state president Nana Patole, as quoted in the release, said international crude oil prices are at record low while fuel prices are at an all-time high in the country. "Unjust taxes imposed by the central government have pushed up fuel prices and inflation," he stated.
The significant spike in cooking gas prices has broken the backbone of the common man, he added.
The Congress leader said the country's economy has crippled by the 'wrong' economic policies of the central government. "Unemployment has risen to an all-time high. The central government has planned to sell public sector industries set up by the Congress government," he alleged.
As per the plan, the Congress leader will first pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at the statue in front of the Mantralaya and then enter the Assembly.
The prices of petroleum products have been rising continuously and reached nearly Rs 100 per litre for petrol in several parts of the country.
The central government has reasoned rising international crude oil prices behind the price increase as the country is import dependent for oil. While the Opposition has claimed that the ruling dispensation does not want to cut the taxes on petroleum products which can drop the prices.
