Panchkula, February 27: Panchkula has become the first district of Haryana to provide tap water connections to every household under the ambitious “Jal Jeevan Mission” scheme of the Centre Government. Every village in the district is now getting water supply through taps, he added.
Mr. Gupta was addressing a press conference in PWD rest house in sector-1 here today.
He said that now there is a need to launch an extensive campaign to make people aware of the proper use of water. He said that the government’s work is to provide resources to the people, but their proper maintenance and utilization is the collective responsibility of the people.
Mr. Gupta said that Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi had announced the “Jal Jeevan Mission” on May 9, 2020. Under this Mission, a target has been set to make available tap water connections to every household in the country by the year 2024. He said that though Haryana has resolved to achieve this target by 2022, Panchkula has completed the target way before in 2021 itself. An amount of Rs 20 crore has been incurred on this project.
The Vidhan Sabha Speaker said that water connections have been provided to 33,108 households in all 128-gram panchayats of Panchkula. He said that Panchkula has achieved the target of providing a minimum of 55 liters of water per person to every household. He said that to further augment water supply in rural areas, the work of replacing 77,000 meters long old water pipelines is in progress. Also, new pipelines are being laid wherever required, he added,
Mr. Gupta said that Village Water and Sewerage Committees have been constituted to ensure an uninterrupted supply of water in the villages. These committees have been formed in all 128 panchayats. He said that labs at Ramgarh and Pinjore to check the quality of water have been upgraded. He said that a toll-free number 1800-180-5678 has been started for any problem related to water supply and quality. Apart from this, people could also send their complaints on the Umang application and Saral portal. These problems will be resolved within two days.
