CHENNAI: Actor Rajinikanth’s associate Ra Arjunamurthy on Saturday launched a new political party - India Makkal Munnetra Katchi. The actor, who had earlier appointed Arjunamurthy as chief coordinator for his to-be-launched party, wished him in a three-line statement.
Arjunamurthy, who was earlier the state president of BJP’s intellectual wing, had joined hands with the actor earlier.
He announced his decision in a programme today.
Arjunamurthy unveiled the party flag and said, “Truthfulness, equality, and dedication were the core ideologies of the party that aimed at inclusive growth of the state.”
He further made five announcements – including Tamil Nadu’s administration would be divided into four regions and four posts of deputy chief ministers would be created. The posts of deputy chief ministers would be held by a woman, a representative of a minority community that lacked adequate political representation, a person belonging to the scheduled caste and an ‘intellectual’, Arjunamurthy said in a statement.
A Labour University for children belonging to below poverty line families, who studied up to class X and dropped out of school will be set up. New posts for village development officers will be created to ensure that government schemes reach remote villages and real beneficiaries were among his plans.
“The party would make learning of basic agriculture compulsory till class X, and if voted to power, we would grant petrol cards for students that would exempt them from the state government’s sales tax,” he said.
