CHENNAI: The ruling AIADMK and S Ramadoss’ PMK on Saturday signed a poll pact for the upcoming assembly elections.
The AIADMK allotted 23 seats to the PMK, which has sizeable support among the Vanniyar community.
Other parties in the AIADMK-led alliance include the BJP and the TMC.
Home minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah is expected in Chennai on Saturday night to begin seat negotiations with the AIADMK.
AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam made the announcement at a private hotel in the presence of chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and PMK leader S Anbumani Ramadoss.
“The AIADMK and the PMK decided to contest together in the assembly election. As per the agreement today, PMK has been allotted 23 seats in Tamil Nadu in the AIADMK-led alliance,” Panneerselvam said.
Panneerselvam, Palaniswami, PMK founder S Ramadoss and PMK presidnet G K Mani signed the poll agreement.
The parties entered a poll pact a day after the Tamil Nadu government passed a bill unanimously to provide internal reservation of 10.5% for Vanniyars within the 20% reservation of the most backward classes.
