Ravi Shastri Responds to Trolling From Shobhaa De with Utmost Maturity

When it is not flooded by politically charged conversations, Twitter is a place for banter, jokes, and memes. However, some people do not understand the difference between laughing with someone vs laughing at someone. Jokes and memes created for personal attacks generally do not go down well with the audiences, especially when the person being attacked is someone of important celebrity stature. Writer and columnist Shobhaa De probably didn’t get this memo when she poked fun at Indian coach Ravi Shastri on Twitter yesterday.

Shastri is often meme’d about his alleged love for alcohol. De went ahead with a post featuring Shastri’s image with the headlines, “You thought I’d stay in a dry state for 5 days,” and followed it up with a caption saying “smart.” Gujarat is a dry state with no public consumption of alcohol barring those with special permits.

The comment came in the aftermath of the3rd Test match between India and England. The series has been infamous for wrapping each game within a couple of days and England haveseen poor batting performances. Speculations are rife among English fans that Indians chose the Ahmedabad stadium intentionally to provide a bad pitch for the guest team. The comments by De seem to insinuate as if the matches wrapping so soon is by design.

Shastri, who usually doesn’t respond to online trolling, didn’t let this one slide by but at the same time handled it with utmost maturity.

In a quote to De’s Tweet, he wrote this,“Love the banter! Feels good to bring some smiles in these tough times.”

De must have believed her Tweet would gain some “LOLs” and “LMAOs” but instead her responses were flooded by Shastri fans. Most commented on how all the future matches are also in the same location, her Tweet-attack is misinformed.
