India's fiscal defict reaches 66.8% of revised Budget estimates at January end

The government has pegged the fiscal deficit for the current year at Rs 18.49 lakh crore, or 9.5 per cent of GDP, on account of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent disruptions.

Total receipts stood at Rs 12.83 lakh crore which is 80.1 per cent of the revised Budget target of Rs 16.01 lakh crore.

The Centre's fiscal deficit stood at 66.8 per cent of revised Budget estimates at the end of January 2021. According to the data released by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA),  India's fiscal deficit stood at 128.5 per cent of Budget estimates at the end of January a year ago.

In absolue terms, India's fiscal deficit stood at Rs 12.34 lakh crore. The government has pegged the fiscal deficit for the current year at Rs 18.49 lakh crore, or 9.5 per cent of GDP, on account of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent disruptions.
