01/3Did your child miss a vaccine dose? Here is what you need to do
The coronavirus pandemic disrupted our lives in ways more than one. While most places were shut to prevent the spread of the virus, it led to missed vaccination doses, making children prone to the risk of infections. Experts suggest 'catch-up vaccination' for children to bring the vaccination routine back on track.
02/3What is 'catch-up vaccination?
Catch-up vaccination is a process where the vaccine is administered after its recommended time. It is given to a person who has previously not been vaccinated, who missed a scheduled dose of vaccine or has not completed a vaccine series. As the lockdown got lifted, parents are trying to catch-up on the missed vaccine doses as soon as possible because the pandemic has made them realise the importance of vaccination.
Timely vaccination is the key to maintain children's immunity against vaccine-preventable diseases (VPD). Getting the kids vaccinated on time can help maintain the immunity of children against VPDs like pneumonia, measles, chickenpox, diphtheria, tetanus, mumps, pertussis, rubella and hepatitis.
03/3Experts recommend parents to restart child's vaccination schedule
With normalcy in the healthcare services around the country, doctors are recommending parents to re-start their children's vaccination schedules in order to keep them safe from diseases. It becomes imperative to control and prevent children from other diseases as coronavirus continues to spread.
The catch-up vaccination provides optimal protection against disease as quickly as possible by completing a person's vaccination schedule in the shortest and most effective manner. Most vaccines prevent one from diseases for the entire life, so if you miss some vaccine, it can still be given.
There is no time for catch-up vaccination, you can restart anytime you want. Right now 30 per cent of catch-up vaccination cases have been seen in OPD.
So, if your child missed a vaccination dose due to the pandemic, now is the time.
