The state reported a marginal increase in fresh Covid-19 cases on Friday with the number going up to 481 from 467 cases on Thursday. There was a marginal drop in active cases to 4,046 from 4,053 on Thursday. The cumulative case tally stood at 8,50,577 and the toll at 12,488 with five deaths on Friday.

Greater Chennai corporation officially has launched a dedicated Whatsapp communication system - +91-9499933644 - to help people avail services, raise queries, grievances and track them in real-time. Meghanath Reddy, deputy commissioner, revenue said, "The reach of Whatsapp is immense and we wanted to leverage that. We are now making all the services available on app and website now available through Whatsapp. For example, services such as monsoon related, Covid, elections, tax payments, based on the need. All services will be available at the click of one number."

Tamil Nadu legislative assembly passed a bill to provide internal reservation of 10.5% to vanniyakula kshatriya community within the 20% reservation of most backward classes.

It also provided internal quota of 7% to denotified communities and the most backward classes communities having similarity with denotified communities.
