"When people feel feverish or catch a flu and show COVID-like symptoms, instead of getting a test, they purchase paracetamols from chemists and try to treat themselves at home. Hence, we have ordered all pharmacies to not sell any medicine without a prescription. We have also asked them to maintain a record of people buying such medicines," she said.
No home quarantine for elderly
Panpatil informed that the positivity rate in Kalyan and Dombivli has gone up because the number of daily tests has also been increased. "We have ramped up testing in the civic body limits and are also urging people to get themselves tested instead of trying home remedies. We are strictly carrying out contact tracing of infected persons and have called off home quarantine for the elderly completely," she said.
"People have to be responsible for their own safety. A renewed outbreak of the virus can only be prevented if the citizens observe COVID-appropriate behaviour in public and follow all the safety norms laid down by the government," she added.
Currently, there are 1,414 active cases in the civic body limits and a whopping 60,000 patients have been discharged so far.
