Seth Meyers Lambastes Lindsey Graham, Says Senator is Trump's 'Chihuahua'

Seth Meyers launched a scathing attack on Lindsey Graham after the senator said that Donald Trump is the "most dominant" voice in the GOP. The Late Night host ridiculed the Republican politician, calling him Trump's "chihuahua."

"Republicans stuck by Trump no matter how bad he was for the party because they agreed with him," Meyers said in his Thursday night monologue. "They were engaged in the same project and wanted the same things. With a few exceptions, they were all Trump."

Referencing Graham, Meyers said he "literally wore the same clothes when they went golfing, like a chihuahua whose owner makes him wear matching outfits."

Graham has renewed his support for the former president in recent weeks and has rebuked Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for condemning Trump.

Meyers played a clip from Graham's speech when he announced his vote to affirm Joe Biden's victory during a joint session of Congress on January 6 following the Capitol riot.

"Trump and I, we've had a hell of a journey. I hate it to end this way," Graham said at the time.

Meyers lambasted this speech, adding: "I believe he was reciting a monologue from the Tennessee Williams play 'A Streetcar Named De-Liar!'"

He continued: "Well, it won't surprise you to learn that Graham almost immediately did a 180. He probably thought that by calling out Trump's bad behavior one time he'd get to co-host a podcast with Obama and Springsteen.

"And by the way, at the same time that he's openly cheerleading a former president who tried to overturn an election, incited a violent insurrection, and routinely called for his political enemies to be jailed, Graham is also calling President Biden's COVID relief package divisive, despite the fact that it's overwhelmingly popular in polls."

Speaking to Newsmax on Wednesday, Graham said he didn't think McConnell's denouncement of Trump after his second Senate impeachment trial was "reflective" of the GOP caucus.

"That's his opinion. I don't think it's reflective of the Republican conference, but he's an individual senator, he can have his say."

The South Carolina senator added: "I spent the weekend with President Trump. He's more determined than ever to grow this party, not shrink it. He is the most dominant voice in the Republican Party—not Mitch McConnell, not Lindsey Graham. His ideas will stand the test of time."

Earlier this month, Meyers blasted Fox News for comparing Marjorie Taylor Greene to Ilhan Omar.
