It's only taken a month for more than 24,300 gamers to register their interest in a local GeForce Now cloud-based game streaming service.
Last month, Perth-based RSP Pentanet opened registrations of interest and allowed would-be GeForce Now users to reserve their usernames.
Those doing so are in line for an invitation to the service's beta period, expected to begin later this year. Not surprisingly, Pentanet customers will be given priority.
On the strength of this interest, Pentanet has order 18 (rather than the originally planned 12) Nvidia RTX game servers, which will cost around $3.2 million.
The servers will be split between Perth and Sydney.
"We are encouraged by the very strong interest in GeForce Now and now have a very clear indication from market demand that Australian gamers appear to understand and support the service, mirroring the strong demand also seen overseas," said Pentanet managing director Stephen Cornish.
"As someone who grew up playing video games, I am proud to be championing the next generation of gaming service into Australia, and I am looking forward to demonstrating both the power of this technology and its ability to shift the gaming market."
