A meal kit delivery service has apologized after a customer was sent a bottle of urine with his order on Sunday morning. Oliver McManus said that he received a suspicious-looking yellow liquid in a plastic Coca-Cola bottle with a meal kit from HelloFresh delivered to his address in UK.
Manus, from Bournemouth, took to Twitter on Sunday to ask for help. "I’ll keep it simple: why have I received someone's bottled-up piss as part of my order? Look forward to your response on this one," he wrote, along with a picture of the suspicious-looking yellow liquid in a bottle. He asked the company to give him an address where he would send the bottle to them so they can ‘have a whiff’ in case they are skeptical.
The post attracted a lot of reactions and many responded with jokes, puns and some with abuses. When some suggested it might have been left there accidentally by a warehouse worker or a delivery driver, Oliver states he believed it was a delivery error, adding "the box wasn’t sealed properly and the bottle was just sort of nestling on the top."
Some users speculated that a delivery driver might have used the bottle to relieve themselves to save time. Others joked saying that it was apple juice, to which he replied negatively. Talking to The Independent, he said that he doesn’t want anyone to get sacked and get in trouble as a result of this incident. He added that the unfortunate incident raises ‘some wider questions about working conditions in the UK.’
HelloFresh quickly responded to McManus on Twitter saying they ‘truly lack the words to describe how sorry we are because of this.’ A spokesperson from HelloFresh said they are"truly horrified and sorry that the customer received the offending item" and shared that the company has launched an investigation into the matter to find out "how an open box with this bottle in it was delivered."
The company revealed that they have apologized directly to Oliver, offering an appropriate good will gesture and are ensuring that such an incident doesn’t occur again.
