Mumbai City FC Head Coach Sergio Lobera After the Game

"Obviously it is the most important moment in the season. We needed to react. It's not just about the result but also how they played. I am very excited about the next game against ATK Mohun Bagan. We deserved to fight for that top spot. I am very happy with my players and we deserve this victory. Next one is going to be like a final.

"I think when we played more than our head, we made the mistake. When it is the most important moment in the season, we need to have control over our emotions. Even with the yellow cards, we have reduced and that's important for me. Our style of play is to arrive quickly and take to the opponents. The motivation or attitude of the players today was fantastic. Today, I am very happy as a coach about this.

"I believe a lot in my team. I felt very good before the game. My players have a lot of confidence and motivation to play the last game. But controlling the motivation is important because when it's too high, like the last two games, it is difficult. In the bad moments, we need to be strong as a team and be loyal in our style of play. We had to avoid the mistakes of the last game - long balls and trying to score very quickly. I am just very happy."

Mumbai City FC's Bartholomew Ogbeche After the Match

"Amazing, really. It's going down to the wire. We have been able to get this lifeline. It was a tough start, we went a goal down. But the good thing was we talked about if it happens like the last game, we have to fight. I am happy we were able to carry forward and take it to the last game.

"Every challenging situation for me is foundation for growth. I have no doubt about my abilities, not only during the game but also training. Football is not just my passion but an obsession. I just go out all guns blazing and leave it all on the pitch.

"I think we need to think about everything. We need to worry about the strikers, they have one of the most profilic strikers. They have one of the best defences as well. We have to come up with a barnstorming performance to go past them. But football is such, no one could have forecasted it would go down to the wire. We need to take care of ourselves and our opponents. We havr to think of all the things we have done wrong and right. No offence to other teams but I think we are the most balanced team and we have to give it all against ATK Mohun Bagan."

Odisha FC and Mumbai City FC last played each other on December 6 with the Islanders registering an easy 2-0 win. Bartholomew Ogbeche scored a penalty in the 30th minute and then Rowllin Borges found the back of the net in the 45th minute to put MCFC 2-0 up. The match ended with the same scoreline with Mumbai being clinical scoring two off the three shots on target. In the entirety of the match, Odisha could get only a single shot on target.

Mumbai’s previous game saw them crash to a defeat to Jamshedpur FC and coach Sergio Lobera knows that unless the team improves, their title hopes over. “We need to improve our performance because we want to win this game,” he said. “Playing like we did in the last game, it is impossible to win the game. The focus is on ourselves and we need to improve at both ends. We conceded a lot of chances and also goals. We did not have chances to score and we need to improve there. We played the worst game of our season and hopefully this is the past now. The most important thing is our present and our future. It was a bad day in the office and sometimes this happens. The important thing is to not repeat this,” Lobera added.

Steven Dias takes charge of Odisha FC after interim manager Gerald Peyton left the club for personal reasons. The former India international revealed his plan to focus on the younger players, ahead of the clash. “We have really good young players,” he said. “I still think that we have a very balanced team. But, we have been so unfortunate. Starting off the season, Thoiba (Singh) and Saurabh (Meher) played in the central midfield but after one or two games even coach Stuart (Baxter) didn’t get much chance to put Indian players. But, they are very talented, I have seen them in the training sessions. In the future, they are going to be very good players but we didn’t get much chance to play some of the young players. I am trying my best to give a few young players chance if they can. I personally feel, in one match, you can change your career. I always tell the young players – prepare yourself and when you get the chance, prove yourself,” Dias added.
