Assembly adjourned for the day after pandemonium over remark of the Minister

Patna, Feb 24 (UNI) Bihar Assembly was adjourned till 11AM tomorrow following pandemonium created by the opposition in its post-lunch sitting over a remark of Social Welfare Minister Madan Sahni against CPI (ML) during his reply to call the attention of its member Mehboob Alam in a pre-lunch sitting.
As the House assembled for post lunch sitting, CPI(ML) and other opposition members registered their strong protest over a remark made by Social Welfare Minister Mr Shani during his reply to a call attention of CPI(ML) member.
Mr Alam had raised the issue of problems being faced by beneficiaries of the old-age pension scheme. Mr Alam said through call attention in pre-lunch sitting that several persons who were earlier getting old-age pension, were not getting pension since the online payment facility was introduced.
Mr Alam demanded from the government to restart the old practice of payment of pension to beneficiaries by organising camps. The demand was rejected by the Minister Mr Sahani, saying the system of Direct Benefit Transfer(DBT) was transparent and helped in wiping out the role of middlemen. He also alleged that he was aware of the inherent motive of CPI(ML) in making such demand and did not want to delve into its details in the House.
The remark had triggered strong protest from CPI(ML) and other opposition members but Speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha adjourned the House for lunch recess as it was close to finishing the scheduled business of the pre-lunch sitting. CPI(ML) members again raised the issue of the unsavoury remark of the Minister and demanded his immediate dismissal as the House assembled for the post-lunch sitting. When Speaker tried to take up the Scheduled business of the House, CPI(ML) and other members trooped into the well and started raising slogans for dismissal of the Minister.
