After 28 years of gifting the world with some incredible electronic pop music, iconic duo Daft Punk broke many hearts by announcing the group’s break up. For two days straight, all social media platforms were flooded with posts from saddened fans all across the globe.
And riding in the wave of the same, Surat Police department have really shown a major upgrade in their meme-game.
While Mumbai Police usually takes the cake in capitalising on viral popular culture trends to create public-awareness memes, other have also started following suit. The latest in this trend is Surat City Traffic Police department from Gujarat. As Daft Punk was trending, they quickly used the duo to create a public traffic safety announcement on their Facebook page.
The duo is famous for their iconic helmets, which they never remove. Their identity isn’t their face, but their cyber-punk costumes and helmet. Surat traffic police thought their helmet is a great way to remind people of traffic rules. In a poster featuring the helmet-clad duo, the department had the statement: “No more instant Crush Crash”
“You don't need to 'Get Lucky', when you're wearing a helmet
#DaftPunk #WearHelmet #SuratCityTrafficPolice #SuratPolice #GujaratPolice #Safety” they wrote in the captions. The oddly flirty and sexual innuendo “get lucky” was used to equate the poster with road safety.
“Surat Police gets it” noted one user. “They saw this post and decided to break up😂😂” joked another.
Recently, Mumbai police also shared a friendly traffic and road safety reminder to the public with a snippet from Brooklyn 99 TV show that had people rolling in laughter.
The clip features characters Jake and Raymond from Brooklyn Nine-Nine get into a car. While Jake is ready to “roll” Raymond makes sure to check mirror, safety belt and so on. 'Smort' people always ensure safety before 'punching it.'” the department wrote as caption.
