NOIDA: Adani Group, which is promoting a data centre in the city in a joint venture with US-based EdgeConneX, has been allotted nine acres in Sector 80 in Phase 2 area. The two companies announced on Tuesday they would develop data centres in four other cities apart from Noida.
Randy Brouckman, the CEO of EdgeConneX, said in a statement, “We look forward to investing in the digital economy of India and meeting our customers’ needs throughout the region in collaboration with Adani.”
Avinash Tripathi, who is in charge of the industries department at the Noida Authority, said Adani Group’s application was among 19 requests by several companies for large plots in the city. All these companies had applied under the UP government’s latest industrial scheme, which allows entrepreneurs to set up units even on a one-acre plot.
“For the data centre by Adani Group, we have found land in Sector 80. The allotment will be done after all the formalities are over,” said Tripathi, Apart from Sector 80, the Authority has large plots available for allotment in sectors 145, 151 and 158, he added.
According to officials, details pertaining to the total investment and the number of jobs the data centre will generate will be clear only after the allotment process is through. The Noida-Greater Noida region is poised to offer a much-needed boost to cyber security experts, developers and data scientists in the years to come. Apart from the one being developed by Adani Group, two other big ticket data centres are being promoted by Hiranandani Group over 20 acres and Japanese firm NTT on six acres.
The development of data centres got a much-needed impetus after the Centre expressed interest in local storage of personal information. The centres could go a long way in tackling cybercrime, which has seen a spurt in the city over the past few years.
