MYSURU: The state Hindu religious institutions and charitable endowments department is making all out efforts to make the mass marriage programme Saptapadi in a bid to popularise simple marriages. As per the proposal, even a single pair can enter the wedlock in these marriages on the notified day.
As per the plan, the temple management will notify the Saptapadi event dates well in advance. Even if a single pair enrolls for the particular day, the event will be held.
The state government launched the scheme in 2020 to popularise mass marriages. In the year 2020, the endowment department wanted to launch this scheme simultaneously in many temples on the day of Akshaya Tritiya.
KA Dayananda, commissioner of the department said the notified temples will announce a date well in advance for organising the event in their premises. “Even if one pair is registered, we will continue with the event. Our aim is making the marriage ceremonies more simple which is important to contain the spread of the Covid-19,” he said.
Dayananda, who is also a well known Kannada writer, has penned an emotional brochure himself on why this scheme has been launched.
In Mysuru, the event will be organised at Nanjaraj Bahadur Choultry among other places. Earlier, only temples were hosting the event. This choultry is in the heart of the city and known as one of the prestigious event halls.
According to the notification, Nanjangud temple, Talakadu temple and palace temples including Chamundeshwari temple atop the Chamundi hills have been included in the venues.
Good response: According to Dayanand, the response for the Saptapadi event has been good. “Tomorrow, 42 pairs will enter into the wedlock in Ghati Subramanya and 12 pairs in Mandarti temple in Udupi. We are expecting more and more devotees will join hands with us,” he added.
