Uttarakhand Police gets women commandos and smart cheetah force

Dehradun, Feb 24 (UNI) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Wednesday launched the Women's Commando Force and Smart Cheetah Force here.
On the occasion, Mr Rawat also felicitated Commando Instructor Shifu Shaurya Bhardwaj, Military Officer Rubina Karki, PTC Narendra Nagar, Instructor Hitesh Kumar, Commando Inspector Neeraj Kumar and trained Women Police Commandos.
The Chief Minister said that the squad of Uttarakhand women commandos has been added to the Uttarakhand Police Squad today.
With this, Uttarakhand has become the fourth state in the country, where a squad of women commandos has been prepared in the police department, the Chief Minister added.
Expressing gratitude to Shifu Shaurya Bhardwaj, who trained the commandos, Mr Rawat said that former gave this training only on a request and that too free of cost.
Mr Rawat said that girls studying in schools and colleges also need to be taught elementary self-defence tricks.
''Teaching self defence along with studies is the need of the hour and it is our endeavor that in the times to come, we should train daughters in terms of self-protection,'' the Minister added.
He also asked officials to plan for this in the future so that such a huge training program can be conducted in the state.
He asserted that many efforts are being made by the state government towards women's empowerment.
Uttarakhand has become the first state in the country in which a woman has been made a co-account holder in the ancestral property of the husband, Mr Rawat claimed.
He said that the way the society is changing, it has become very important for women to be financially empowered at such times.
''There are many programs going on with the idea that our daughters should be strong and strong. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has opened all the avenues for daughters,'' Mr Rawat said.
''In INS Tarangini, five women completed a risky journey of 18,000 kms. He said that daughters are flying fighter jets today. The daughters of the country are going to the infantry and borders. For the empowerment of women, all round development of daughters is very important,'' he added.
On the occasion, 22 trained women commandos showed many safety related tricks.
Mr Rawat also launched 104 Trained Cheetah Police Team.
On this occasion, he paid tribute to the two policemen who died during the disaster in Chamoli district.
The Chief Minister said that during the disaster in Chamoli district, commendable work was done by our women officers in relief and rescue operations.
On this occasion MLA Vinod Chamoli, Women Commission Chairman Vijaya Barthalwal, Military Safety Advisor to the Chief Minister Lt (Rita) JS Negi, Secretary Home Nitesh Jha, Director General of Police Ashok Kumar and police officials were present.
