R Dhinakaran takes charge as IGP west zone for Tamil Nadu

COIMBATORE: All necessary steps will be taken to ensure smooth conduct of the upcoming assembly election in the western zone of the state, assured R Dhinakaran -- a 1988 batch IPS officer, who took charge as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) west zone on Wednesday.
Dhinakaran said that he has a four-point agenda involving redressing the public grievances at the earliest, cracking down on illegal activities and taking strict action against the anti-social elements and ensuring smooth conduct of assembly elections in all the eight districts that fall under the west zone.

Ahead of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Coimbatore on Thursday, he said that his personnel are watchful and conducting vehicle checks to prevent any kind of untoward incidents.
A native of Virudhunagar district Dhinakaran completed his PhD in agriculture from India agriculture research institute in New Delhi in 1998 after completing his masters in Tamil Nadu agriculture university in the city, his bio-data stated.
He joined as the assistant superintendent of police in Madurai in 1999, he had served as the superintendent of police in Coimbatore from 2002 to 2005. Prior to taking charge as IGP, he served as the additional commissioner of police (law and order) south, Greater Chennai police.
He also received the President’s police medal for meritorious service in 2013 and the Chief Minister’s medal for excellence in public service in 2019.
