GURUGRAM: Three men have been arrested for allegedly posing as employees of a public sector bank and duping a Gurugram resident of Rs 2.38 crore in the name of selling a mortgaged property to him, police said. One of them is a former employee of a bank.
The trio, police said, had created a fake domain name and an email ID in the name of the PSU bank before approaching Gaurav Sahni posing as the employees of its assets recovery management branch. After finalising the deal online, they coaxed Gaurav to wire the money to a bank account from where they transferred the sum to another account and withdrew cash.
The accused — Kishan Kumar, a resident of Delhi, Rakesh Vashiye from UP and Saurabh Palanwal from Ghaziabad — also purchased three gold bricks worth Rs 1.50 crore from a jeweller in Delhi. They were planning to flee to Dubai after duping a few more people and collecting Rs 40 crore, cops claimed. Being a former bank employee, Kishan was aware of the auction process of mortgaged properties and had access to the database of potential buyers.
The arrests were carried out by cops from the Cyber police station of Gurugram. On February 15, Gaurav filed a complaint there, alleging he was duped of Rs 2.38 crore by the trio in the name of selling a property mortgaged with the bank. A case was filed under sections 419 (cheating), 420 (dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC and under the IT Act.
Police first arrested Kishan on February 17. During custodial interrogation, he had revealed the names of Rakesh and Saurabh who were nabbed on February 19 from Gurugram.
“The trio has finalised two more deals of Rs 7 crore and Rs 10 crore, respectively. They were planning to collect Rs 40 crore and flee to Dubai,” said ACP (DLF) Karan Goyal.
