CHENNAI: After a year’s gap, Tamil Nadu Open University will be offering BEd degree in English and Tamil medium to working teachers in distance mode from the academic year 2021-2022.
Candidates should have completed diploma in elementary education and should be employed in a recognised school to enroll for the course. The last date to apply is March 31.
“We have got the recognition of University Grants Commission (UGC) and National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) to offer BEd in distance mode,” said K Parthasarathy, vice-chancellor of TNOU. Admissions will be given to 500 candidates in each medium.
The university is also offering BEd in special education and more than 400 candidates have enrolled for the course so far.
The university offers 80 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes recognised by the UGC. “Syllabus for all the degree programmes were updated last year keeping up with latest developments in the relevant fields,” Parthasarathy added.
Despite the pandemic, the university has recorded 10,600 admissions in the 2020-21 academic year. “In undergraduate courses alone, we had more than 6,000 admissions. That showed students were particular about pursuing higher education despite the pandemic,” he added.
