India will clash with England in the all-important third Test in Ahmedabad from Wednesday. The new refurbished stadium in Motera is all set to host what will be one of the most important matches at home in India's recent Test history. With the series tied at 1-1, expect a lot of fireworks from a number of superstars in both sides. We look at 5 players to watch out for in the contest.

India vs England 2021: Third Test Preview - A Pink Ball Test With A Lot Riding On It

1. Shubman Gill (India)

Shubman Gill had a rare failure in the second Test in Chennai but has been a revelation for India at the top. Gill was very impressive in Australia and has the gift of timing and magnificent stroke-play to complement it. Big runs at a high strike rate and he can set the course for the home team at the top of the order. Gill will like to make a statement by scoring his first hundred in Test cricket. He may just like the Pink Ball coming onto the bat especially under lights.

2. Virat Kohli (India)

Virat Kohli has scored three tough fifties for India in his last three Test matches under pressure when most others around him have failed - showcasing his class and what separates him from the rest. His 62 in the second innings of the second Test in Chennai was a tremendous knock under pressure. Kohli has still not registered an international hundred since 2020. Motera will be just the right venue and moment.

3. Jasprit Bumrah (India)

Jasprit Bumrah had a decent home debut in the series opener in Chennai but was not exceptional. He was guilty of bowling on both sides of the wicket and was not at his usual disciplined best. The Indian speedster would want to set the record straight at Motera and make an impact with the Pink Ball. Regarded as one of the finest fast bowlers across formats in the world, Bumrah has picked 83 wickets in just 18 Tests at an outstanding average of 21.87 and strike rate of 48.6.

4. Joe Root (England)

Joe Root did not have a great time in the second Chennai Test but had recorded two double hundreds and another massive hundred in three of his previous six innings. Root is, by some distance, England's best Test batsman and also their finest player against spin. He has an aggregate of 881 runs in 8 Tests in India at an average of 58.73.

5. James Anderson (England)

James Anderson changed the match on its head getting three Indian wickets with brilliant reverse swing in the second innings of the series opener in Chennai. He will be England's trump card with the Pink Ball especially in the twilight period. Anderson has the ability to single-handedly win England the match if there is even a little bit of help for the seamers at Motera. The England seamer is the leading wicket-taker amongst fast bowlers in Test history.
