MADURAI: The Madurai city police have detained a 23-year-old man under the Goondas Act as “he was planning to commit crimes.”
B Vinuchakkaravarthi of Thangasamy Nagar in Silaiman has been lodged in Madurai Central Prison in connection with a chain-snatching case.
The police said he was found acting in a manner prejudicial to the maintenance of public order in Madurai city. He was planning to commit offences like murder and robberies, the police said.
He was detained under the Goondas Act based on the order from Madurai city police commissioner S Prem Anand Sinha.
The police detained 19 people under the Goondas Act so far this year.
