The “RESPECT SELENA AND FRANCIA” trend from fans comes following the airing of a Chinese variety show called Who’s The Murderer, which reportedly mocked the duo’s 2017 kidney transplant.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Selena‘s critical surgery became the subject of a TV joke: the Saved By the Bell reboot faced a similar type of backlash in 2020 after multiple scenes poking fun at the transplant.
“We apologize. It was never our intention to make light of Selena’s health. We have been in touch with her team and will be making a donation to her charity, The Selena Gomez Fund for Lupus Research at USC,” Peacock shared in a statement amid backlash at the end of the year.
