The Baton Rouge, Louisiana-based company said it had net income of $1.36 per share. Earnings, adjusted for asset impairment costs and costs related to mergers and acquisitions, were $1.49 per share.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.45 per share.
The home health care and hospice services provider posted revenue of $550.7 million in the period, missing Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $551.9 million.
For the year, the company reported profit of $183.6 million, or $5.52 per share. Revenue was reported as $2.07 billion.
Amedisys expects full-year earnings in the range of $6.25 to $6.47 per share, with revenue in the range of $2.28 billion to $2.32 billion.
Amedisys shares have dropped 4% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $281.61, a climb of 47% in the last 12 months.
