Andaman allows Tourism activities North & Middle Andaman District with due SOP

Port Blair, Feb 24 (UNI) The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has issued orders for reopening tourism activities in North & Middle Andaman District, subject to the following of various SOPs prescribed by the Administration.

Because of this, several tourist attractions like Lime Stone Cave at Baratang, Ross & Smith Island at Diglipur and Lalaji Bay Beach at Long Island etc. will now be open for tourists.

Tourism activities were permitted to operate in South Andaman District except Little Andaman w.e.f 27/09/2020 and since then there was a huge demand to permit tourism in North and Middle Andaman District also.

Several requests have been received for the reopening of tourism activities in the North & Middle Andaman District by all stakeholders and political parties.

“Considering the demand for reopening of tourism activities in North & Middle Andaman, the tourism activities have now been allowed to operate in North & Middle Andaman District subject to fulfilling the Standard Operating Procedures viz SOP for COVID19 testing for tourists coming to the Andaman Islands; Opening of Beaches and Opening of Water-based/Water Sports activities like snorkelling and boat rides,” an official communication of Andaman and Nicobar Administration said today.

The tourism sector is the major contributor and fulcrum to the economy of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the reopening of these activities in North and Middle Andaman District will help in the revival of the Tourism industry in North and Middle Andaman District, which has been badly affected due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

Major Tourism Bodies of Tour and Travel Operators have meanwhile welcomed the move of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to reopen tourism in North and Middle Andaman.

Meanwhile as per existing guidelines, on arrival at Port Blair, the tourists need to carry COVID-19 negative report from mainland based ICMR approved lab using Reverse Transcriptase-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RTPCR). However, the sample for the RTPCR test should have been taken within 48 hours before starting the journey from the origin station. No institutional or home quarantine is required to be observed if the tourist has tested negative in the RTPCR test at ICMR approved lab.

For travel to North& Middle Andaman District, the tourists are allowed to visit Baratang/North & Middle Andaman subject to compulsory RAT testing for Andaman Trunk Road commuters which will be carried out at Forest Check Post on the spot / same-day on payment of applicable charges.
