Task Force Urges Prime Minister for Declaration of Mass Dying of Tree Bean as a National Disaster

Task Force for the Protection and Conservation of Tree Bean (Yongchak) urges the Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi for declaration of Mass Dying of Tree Bean as a National Disaster.

Task Force for the Protection and Conservation of Tree Bean (Yongchak) was formed by a group of institutions in Manipur i.e.
i) Manipur University; Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, Manipur;
ii) Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – North-East Institute of Science and Technology (CSIR-NEIST), Imphal;
iii) Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Research Complex Manipur Centre, Imphal;
iv) Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA), Government of Manipur;
v) Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal and
vi) The Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS), Manipur.

The Seminar on “Dying of Tree Bean (Yongchak) in Manipur: Remedies and Steps Toward Conservation” held on 16th January 2021 at Manipur University was concluded with a few joint Recommendation by forming a Task Force to halt “For the Protection and Conservation of yongchak” and to declare the Mass Dying of Tree Bean as a National Disaster.

During the seminar, Dr. Najma Heptulla, Governor of Manipur and Dr. Lorho S. Pfoze, MP (Lok Sabha, Outer Manipur Constituency) was attended as a Chief Guest and one of the guests of honour respectively.

It urges to formulate plans and policies to tackle this issue of deteriorating health of yongchak. It was also submitted a Copy of Proceeding and Recommendation of the Seminar and Recommendation of Seminar which was held on 22nd September 2008.

The copy of the same was also submitted to Shri. Harsh Vardhan, Minister of Science and Technology and Shri. Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.
