CHANDIGARH: On the order of the Supreme Court, the child protection society of the UT Chandigarh under the department of the social welfare has sought information from government schools regarding students, whose studies have been affected due to financial constraint during the Covid-19 pandemic. Schools have been asked to identify all such students and share the list with the child protection society. The selected students will be given grantin aid of Rs 2,000 per month by the UT administration.
It was after a letter, which was written by the department of social welfare, women and child development to the district child protection unit, to ensure strict compliance of the SC directions, that the schools have been asked to identify such students.
The letter has asked the child protection unit to identify families who are unable to send their children to school or cannot bear the education expenses of their children due to Covid-19 crises and make a database of children belonging to such families and also prepare a list of children, who have dropped out of schools due to poor financial condition.
“A data base is required to be submitted to the child protection society by following a format for seeking grant-in aid in order to release an amount of Rs 2,000 per month for each child along with approximate budget,” it further states.
The district child protection unit has further been asked to intimate the district legal service authority about the progress made in the infrastructure being provided to the child care institutions and functioning of online classes on monthly basis, to compile assessment of children sent back to their families during the lockdown and submit the same to the department within 15 days with a copy to the child welfare committee and the juvenile justice board for proving necessary assistance.
